The Great Escape

The other morning, I had the pleasure of seeing the famous David Wolfe, Creative Director of the Doneger Group, give his perspective of what is trending in the world right now and how it affects fashion for Fall ’17 and beyond.

According to Wolfe, due to all of the chaos, turmoil and uncertainty in our complicated world right now, many are turning to augmented and virtual realities. (Yes, I am on level 11 of Pokemon Go, yes, I do have a Pikachu and yes, be jealous).

Fashion, always reacting to the world around it, naturally wants to escape all of this chaos as well. How, you may ask? By being minimal, with clean silhouettes and an overall utilitarian feel, while some progressives, even incorporating bits of 3D printed elements.

As images of Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang and Givenchy came and went across the powerpoint presentation, I couldn’t help but beam with a bit of pride that Israeli fashion has been ahead of this minimalist curve. When I think of the general Israeli aesthetic I think of geometric/ precise design, mixed with the laid-back and easy esthetic that epitomizes Tel Aviv.
