Dreamweavers: New Fashion Exhibit in Tel Aviv
Very exciting news: Dreamweavers, a new fashion exhibit opened last week at Beit Hatfutsot, in Tel Aviv and will be running until May 17th. Some of the designers featured in this exhibit are Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Sonia Rykiel, Michael Kors, Alber Elbaz and Diane Von Furstenburg. A major boost for the Tel Aviv fashion scene, the exhibit will display never-before-seen designs, specially made for the event.
The exhibition presents the fashion world’s greatest success stories and the route followed by traditional Jewish tailors as new immigrants in New York. It details their humble beginning, working in sweatshops, and explores their early work and inspirations. The exhibit follows the birth of iconic companies, such as Levi Strauss' jeans company, and their development into global empires. Chief curator Dr. Orit Shaham Gover said about the exhibit, “Dream Weavers provided me with an unprecedented opportunity to learn about the fashion world and to better understand the ways in which it impacts our lives and shapes our perceptions”.
Often limited by its size and overlooked, Tel Aviv has quietly gained the attention of the fashion world. Known more for its computer chips and algorithms, Tel Aviv, who this week was voted "Smartest City in the World," is also, according to TravelCity, the most beautiful. TravelCity in 2012 declared the people of Tel Aviv to be the most beautiful in the world. It seems fitting then, to have beautiful clothes in "the White City." Hopefully, the new Dreamweavers exhibit will help show the world the beautiful, fashionable side of Tel Aviv and prove that this amazing city is a fashionable force to be reckoned with.
