Basically Brilliant
I have an off-and-on relationship with fast fashion. I guess you can say I am a knowing victim of fast fashionitis. For those of you not familiar with the term (which I just made up), fast fashionitis is a condition where one goes into a fast fashion retailer, knowing that whatever they buy will fall apart in the next wash but not being able to help themselves, due to the amazing (looking) clothes at amazing prices.
Even fashion lovers who don’t venture into such fast fashion establishments might still find themselves wandering in to buy basics. I’m talking t-shirts, leggings, jersey skirts, that type of thing. The thought process goes something like this, “It’s only basics. Why should I spend a ton of money on them? I would rather splurge on more unique pieces”. Though splurging on cool and unique pieces is also something I’d recommend doing, investing in basics is a MUST. Nothing feels better than putting on a high quality soft cotton t-shirt and knowing that it's with you for the long haul. It will last you longer, (thus saving you the green) and won’t fall apart after Thursday’s laundry day.
It’s time to take back basics and stop treating them like they are second best. Someone who shares this view and knows exactly what I’m talking about is designer Dorit Sharon. After designing the perfect basic line for the luxury denim brand 7 for All Mankind, Dorit decided to launch the Q by Dorit Sharon collection, thus perfecting the T-shirt (and some other very effortlessly chic not-so-basic basics).
