Ever since meeting my husband, the holiday of Thanksgiving has taken on a different meaning for me. There's the obvious mushy gushy reason that he is one of the best things to ever come into my life, but also for the less obvious reason that he takes this holiday VERY seriously. You see, growing up in my Russian family, I wasn't really exposed to the "traditional American Thanksgiving" the way I saw it on TV. Sure we had a turkey, but it was almost always accompanied by pickled herring, Olivier salad and napoleon cake. If the season finale of Russia's version of The Voice was on at the same time as the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade, guess which one we watched? So, it came as a delightful and amusing surprise when I found out that my husband is a Thanksgivoholic. The turkey must be impeccably seasoned, the stuffing perfectly fluffy and the sweatpants must have the maximum amount of stretch. Oh, and the football. Lots AND LOTS of football. In fact, Thanksgiving is his Superbowl of holidays. Pesach? Good practice. Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot? The playoffs. Turkey day? The big leagues.
So, whether you will be navigating awkward political conversations at the table with your Uncle Vadim, playing a competitive game of Pilgrim Pong at your Friendsgiving, or meeting your significant other's family for the first time, don't lose sight of what this holiday is all about; spending time with loved ones, enjoying each other's company and wearing the perfect pair of elasticized pants. Happy Thanksgiving!
Shop my Thanksgiving day picks that'll sure to evoke your warmest fuzzies:
This Tooshaya turtleneck is pretty dang smart! Not only does it adjust itself to weather conditions (aka highly breathable when warm and keeps you significantly warmer in the cold), but it's also super light because it's made out of bamboo! (aka the "Vegan Silk").
Love these relaxed-fit Reuma jeans that also taper perfectly. Oh, and check that elasticized waistband action.
Sweaters: my not-so-guilty fall pleasure. I love this Belle and Sue grey iteration with an unexpected twist (or zig, in this case).
When your mother says to "dress up". This dress from Shaharit has you covered. The fact that the belt is removable for that third helping of pie is just the cherry on top.
Animal print is still going strong this season and this blouse from Blueberry is easy to pair with anything. Bonus: the high/low style gives you endless pant- tucking options.
These D'oRo boots can be paired with anything. It's very black and white.
These beautifully crafted CoupleOf mules remind me a bit of Moroccan babouche slippers. Oh, and easy on/off for post-meal lounging.
Croc embossed footwear is trending hard this fall and I cannot overstate my love for this Shoez Webstore pair.
Square toes: also a major trend this fall. And yes, these CoupleOf loafers ARE as buttery soft as they look
